Levando o jogo pós-fordista ao extremo oriente: a futebolização da China, do Japão e da Coreia do Sul

O presente artigo explora as dimensões globais, as aspirações nacionais e as pré-condições da ascensão do futebol na China, no Japão e na Coreia do Sul. A emergente popularidade do futebol na zona do mundo de maior crescimento económico indica, por um lado, o êxito da integração da «periferia futebolística» nos mercados globais e, por outro, a mudança das relações de consumo em áreas onde, no passado, o futebol era praticamente inexistente. As condições locais são profundamente marcadas pelos sistemas tradicionais de desporto e entretenimento, no sentido em que estes se associam às identidades locais e à competição entre cidades. Com a aparente intensificação das ambições nacionais por todo o Leste asiático, o futebol enquanto projecto nacional tem adquirido proeminência nas modernas China e Coreia do Sul.

La progression du jeu post-fordiste en Extrême-Orient: la footballisation de la Chine, du Japon et de la Corée du Sud

L’article exploite les dimensions globales, les aspirations nationales et les pré-requis de l’ascension du football en Chine, au Japon et dans la Corée du Sud. La popularité émergente du football dans la zone de plus grande croissance économique du monde (en termes de production et de pouvoir d’achat) indique, d’une part, une intégration bien réussie de la «périphérie footballistique» dans les marchés globaux et, d’autre part, le changement des rapports de consommation dans des régions où, par le passé, le football n’existait pratiquement pas. Les conditions locales sont profondément marquées par les systèmes traditionnels du sport et des loisirs, ces derniers associés aux identités locales et aux compétitions entre villes. Avec l’intensification apparente des ambitions nationales dans l’est asiatique, le football en tant que projet national devient de plus en plus prééminent dans les modernes Chine et Corée du Sud.

 

Playing the post-Fordist game in/to the Far East: the footballisation of China, Japan and South Korea

This paper explores the global dimensions, national aspirations, and local preconditions of the rise of football in China, Japan and Korea. The burgeoning popularity of football in the world’s most vital growth region (in terms of production and consumption power) indicates both the successful integration of the «football periphery» into global commodity markets as well as changing relations of consumption in areas where football previously was close to non-existent. Local conditions are deeply tainted by the traditional arrangement of sport and entertainment, the way these are linked to local identity and inter-city competition. While national ambitions seem to be more to the front throughout East Asia, football as national project stands out in modernizing China and Korea.
